Issue

The SnapManager for Hyper-V backup fails with VSS_E_WRITERERROR_NONRETRYABLE.

[2024/10/22 1:11:13, (56)] Writer Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer involved in backup or restore operation is in failed state. Writer returned failure code 0x800423f4. Writer state is 8.
 

Note:

  • 0x800423f4 means VSS_E_WRITERERROR_NONRETRYABLE 
  • Writer state 8 means VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_FREEZE
