Why do ONTAP storage node utilization graphs look different when comparing StorageNode and netapp_ontap objects?

Answer
- When viewing storage node utilization graphs for ONTAP storage nodes, the graphed data can differ depending on whether
StorageNode
ornetapp_ontap
metrics object is being used. - Even though both
netapp_ontap.system_node.utilization
andStorageNode.performance.utilization
use the same formula to generate utilization values, differences between these metrics can cause the graphs to diverge:- netapp_ontap metrics are collected during micro-polls, which occur every 5 minutes, whereas StorageNode metrics are captured during performance polls which are every 15 minutes by default
- Query roll-up windows may not align perfectly when comparing graphs, introducing subtle differences in the resulting aggregated values
