Why do I receive error "Could not find Virtual Machine for ID XXXXXXX" when clicking a Virtual Machine global search result in Cloud Insights?

Answer

  • The virtual machine (VM) was likely deleted on the hypervisor
  • After subsequent inventory determines the VM was deleted, a cleanup process begins
  • If the inventory database is cleaned up prior to the global search index, the VM may still show up in search results even though the VM no longer exists in inventory
  • Clicking this search result will attempt to navigate to a resource that no longer exists, resulting in the error message
