Trident backend offline and failing to create new PVC due to 401 incorrect or missing credentials

Issue

The backend shows in offline state and creating new PVC (Persistent Volume Claim) fails with the following error:
 
Error: could not create backend: problem initializing storage driver '<STORAGE_DRIVER_NAME>': error initializing <STORAGE_DRIVER_NAME> driver: could not create Data ONTAP API client: error creating ONTAP API client: error reading SVM details: response code 401 (Unauthorized): incorrect or missing credentials (400 Bad Request)
command terminated with exit code 1
