How to rename a Trident backendName that is in a used backend definition

The question that came up was:
  • Is it possible to change the backendName in our trident configuration, and if so, how is that done ?
  • What are the limitations ?
If the 'backendName' parameter was specified in a  backend.json or tbc.yaml originally, then it can be changed.
If the ‘backendName’ is NOT specified in a tbc.yaml or backend.json config file, Trident assigns it a name with drive and a dataLIF  IP (<ontap-nas_dataLIF-IP>) and the name cannot be changed.
 
Note: The TBC name itself cannot be edited as it is an immutable object.
