Why has my ONTAP backend reached its volume limit even though Trident reports fewer volumes in use?

Answer

  • List all volumes on ONTAP that follow the PVC naming pattern.
  • Extract all active PVC UIDs from the Kubernetes cluster.
  • Compare the ONTAP volume names with the active PVC UIDs.
  • Any volume on ONTAP that does not match an active PVC is considered orphaned and can be safely deleted to free up space and reduce the volume count.
