Description

A configuration setting in WinZip - the 'TAR file smart CR/LF conversion' option - is enabled by default and will cause tar files to be altered/corrupted during extraction. This default behaviour often leads to the misconception that WinZip "does not work".

The 'TAR file smart CR/LF conversion' option is not suitable for binary files (i.e., image.tgz) and must be disabled. The Procedure below describes how to disable that option so that WinZip can be used successfully with ONTAP software images and other binary tar/tgz archives.
