Issue

  •  All nodes in a grid are reporting NTP is not locked.
  • Even with both NTP sources back online, we were unable to talk properly to them about the information needed for the NetApp StorageGRID node time sync.
  • Pings are successful to the NTP sources; however, no information is syncing.
  • Check the NTP time offset and jitter with the following command. Note that all output is 0's and the IPs are replaced with init.

ntpq -p
     remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter
==============================================================================
-00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
+00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
*00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
-00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
-00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
-00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
-00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000
+00.00.00.00     init             0 u   0    0   0      0.000    0.000   0.000

  • ntpdc commands to retrieve information from the NTP server time-out.
  • Syncing the NTP clocks using ntpd -q produces no changes to the offset and jitter when running the command.
