Answer

When a disk drive is replaced and assigned in an ADP configuration, it will not get auto-partitioned, unless the disk is needed for one of the following operations:

  • Disk Reconstruction
  • Sick Disk Copy
  • Aggregate Provisioning (aggr add, aggr create)
  • Disk Replace

NOTE! "Disk Replace" means disk replace command.

If the auto-partitioning fails with a timeout message during any of the above operations, Data ONTAP will automatically attempt to partition the same or another similar drive when available.
