Multi-disk panic(MDP) after ONTAP upgrade to 9.6P2 or 9.5P7 with 30 TB SSDs

  • X359 Solid-state drives (SSD)s (30 TB drives)
  • Any drives over 16 TB in size and ONTAP 9.6P2/9.5P7/9.5P4

Issue

  • Customer may see panic message similar to "PANIC: aggr abc_id01: raid volfsm, fatal multi-disk error. raid type raid_dp Group name plex0/rg0 state DOUBLEDEGRADED 1 disk failed in the group."
  • MDP occurs usually after system upgrade to 9.5P7 or 9.6P2 and will panic multiple times, but has been found in earlier ONTAP 9.5x releases.
