How to physically populate a DS224C or NS224 disk shelf with a partial set of disks
Applies to
- DS224C Disk Shelf
- NS224 Disk Shelf
- ONTAP 9
Description
By default the DS224C and NS224 shelves accommodate up to 24 total disks each. However, it is possible to utilize these shelves not fully populated. The drive positioning within the shelf is important to ensure correct initialization of the system and automatic disk assignment.
- To correctly populate one of these shelves with a partial set of disks, install the disks from the outside in. There should be an equivalent number of disks on the left as there is on the right with the center being open.
- For instance if the total number of disks required for the shelf is twelve, populate slots 0 through 5 and 18 through 23. That will leave slots 6 through 17 open.
