Applies to

  • DS224C disk shelves
  • ONTAP

Issue

  • Shelf goes missing/appears to be powered off, resulting in all its disks reporting failed
  • In the following example, shelf 2 suddenly loses all power and does not show up in sysconfig -a output:

Shelf 10: DS224-12  Firmware rev. IOM12 A: 0270  IOM12 B: 0270
Shelf 12: DS224-12  Firmware rev. IOM12 A: 0270  IOM12 B: 0270

Note: Shelf 11 is missing

  • One or both nodes in HA pair attached to affected shelf may panic as a result of multiple disk failures above RAID tolerance threshold:

Panic string: aggr aggr1: raid volfsm, fatal multi-disk error..

  • Power supplies still show amber lights; however, there is no disk activity or LED lights in front of the impacted disk shelf
  • SYSCONFIG-R section in Active IQ AutoSupport will report any disks from missing shelf as FAILED
