Brocade switch shows Power Supply is faulty

Brocade 6510 switch

Issue

  • Amber light/sclaim Orang or no link lights displayed on the switch PSU.
  • sensorshow reports PSU2 as "faulty" and Fan 2 as "Unknown"

sensor  1: (Temperature) is Ok, value is 39 C
sensor  2: (Fan 1 ) is Ok,speed is 6617 RPM
sensor  3: (Fan 2 ) is Unknown
sensor  4: (Power Supply) is Ok
sensor  5: (Power Supply) is Faulty

  • psshow reports Power Supply 2 as faulty:

Power Supply #1 is OK
Power Supply #2 is faulty

  • fanshow reports Fan 2 as Unknown:

Fan 1 is Ok, speed is 6617 RPM
Fan 2 is Unknown

  • As per errdump, could see both PS1 ; PS2 and Fan2 going faulty:

2023/06/21-14:23:40, [HIL-1610], 88315, CHASSIS, WARNING, Brocade, Fan/PS unit 2 not supplying power, fan speeds may not be available. Please ensure that the unit has power and the switch is on.

  • Below steps followed to further rule out any potential power issues on site such the power outlet, cables etc before replacing the switch PSU:
  1. Check if power cable is connected properly.
  2. Try to swap with good known power cable.
  3. Reseat power cords and PSU of switch.
  4. Ensure the external power supply operating normally.

 

Note: For Brocade 6510 switches, the fans are integrated into the power supply unit
