NetApp Response to Russia-Ukraine Cyber Threat
In response to the recent rise in cyber threat due to the Russian-Ukraine crisis, NetApp is actively monitoring the global security intelligence and updating our cybersecurity measures. Upgrading the Service Processor to version 4.1 or 5.1 may cause the SP to boot the backup image

  • SP 4.X / 5.X
  • AFF A200 / FAS26XX
  • AFF A300 / FAS8200
  • AFF A700 / FAS9000
  • When upgrading the Service Processor (SP) to version 4.1, 5.1 or later, from version 4.0, 5.0, or 5.0.1, the SP might get into a state where it always boots to the  backup image.
  • Since SP upgrades often happen during motherboard replacements, the issue is may be encountered once we reach the SP upgrade step. 
  • The SP will report running a secondary version: [SP.notice]: Running secondary version 4.0
  • In the SP MGMT MLOG (found in the etc/log directory) , you will notice similar error messages:

 May 15 2020 10:56:22 -04:00 [kern_servprocd:info:31290] 0x807b41c00: 0: ERR: Servprocd::SpUpdate: PostUpdateCheck: SP firmware has NOT been updated from version 4.0 to version 4.6P1, as was expected.
May 15 2020 10:56:22 -04:00 [kern_servprocd:info:31290] 0x807b41c00: 0: NOTICE: Servprocd::SpUpdate: SpUpdateReport: SP firmware post-update check has FAILED.
