High Protocol Latency on FAS25xx with clustered Data ONTAP for remote LIF traffic

Issue
Users report high protocol latency while accessing data hosted on clustered ONTAP on FAS25xx series and clustered Data ONTAP.
System has Qlogic NIC cards used for intercluster ports.
EMS logs similar to the following can be reported in ASUPs:
NwkThd_02: Nblade.dBladeNoResponse:warning]: Gave up retrying a file operation due to no response from the specified node. UUID of the node where data is located is fa000834-a355-11e4-87bc-5f5978ef59aa; the protocol for the operation is NFS.
Error messages similar to the following might also be reported:
