BIOS update fails with "SPI device not supported" message

Issue

Updating the BIOS when performing an ONTAP upgrade from 8.2.2P1 to 8.2.5P5, fails with the following error:

[2021-02-02 11:07:08.789] Programming  done. 0 bytes written
[2021-02-02 11:07:08.836] Updating Primary Boot Flash
[2021-02-02 11:07:08.867] Programming Failed. -4 bytes written: I/O error
[2021-02-02 11:07:08.914] Programming Failed. 0 bytes written: I/O error
[2021-02-02 11:07:08.961] I/O error (errcode=-4)
