How to power off an E-Series storage system

Description

This article describes how to power off and on an E-Series array.


Examples:
When moving the system to a new location, data center upgrades, hardware replacement, or upgrades.

 

Procedure

Perform the following steps:

Powering Down
  1. Halt the Host I/O.
  2. Perform any additional steps required on the host, such as unmounting file systems.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes.
  4. Ensure there are no background operations in progress
    • SANtricity Storage Manager: Monitor > Reports > Operations in Progress
    • SANtricity System Manager: Home tab > View Operations in Progress
  5. Turn off both power supplies in the controller-drive enclosure.
  6. Wait for the LEDs to go dark.
  7. Turn off both power supplies in each Expansion enclosure.
  8. Wait for 2 minutes for the drives to spin down.

At this point, disconnect the cables and start moving/removing hardware, or perform any FRU activities.

Powering Up
  1. Power on all Expansion enclosures.
  2. Wait for 2 minutes to allow the drives to spin up.
  3. Power up the controller-drive enclosure.
  4. Wait for 3 minutes.
  5. Reconnect the cables, if required.
  6. Resume the host activity.
