Answer

The number of open files reported by vserver cifs session file show will be the number currently in use by applications. This can cause confusion, depending on application behavior.

For example, Notepad will close a file when focus is shifted to a different application, whereas Internet Explorer will close files after a period of non-use.

If the command vserver cifs session file show is being run to determine the number of open files, the file locks are counted toward this total. vserver locks show can be used instead.
