Answer

Beginning in ONTAP 9.7, multi-hop upgrades of Long term releases are supported, which means you can perform a direct upgrade from 9.3 to 9.7.

  • The version of ONTAP that you can upgrade or downgrade varies based on the version of ONTAP currently running on your cluster.
Upgrade Paths
Reverts
  • For the latest and most accurate information please refer to the guide ONTAP Revert paths.
    • Reverting is a single hop operation. meaning you must revert one version at a time until you reach your desired version.

Example

  • You multi-hop upgrade from 9.3 to 9.7
  • In a rare situation you may have to revert
    • then you must revert from 9.7 to 9.6, then to 9.5 until you reach 9.3
    • You may also decide to remain in 9.6 or 9.5 depending on the issue. At this point you should have a Support ticket open for assistance
