Unix users don't have permission to NFS mounts due to NIS group build failure

Issue

  • Unix permissions are set to 775 on Unix security style volumes to limit write permissions by group ID (GID)
  • Lookup of Unix users fails to return all GIDs that user is a member of
cluster::> vserver services name-service getxxbyyy getgrlist -node -vserver  -username user
  • NIS is configured to lookup Unix groups IDs (GIDs)
  • The following error is logged in EMS
9/25/2020 15:57:36 node0011  ERROR         nis.group.db.build.failure: Failed to build the NIS group database for Vserver vserver4. Error: RPC: Can't decode result: This error is usually observed when the NIS server response size is greater than 1024 bytes.
