Issue

  • Users suddenly report a high amount of latency.
  • Upon review, Quality of Service (QoS) latency doesn't reflect the latency the end-user is experiencing, however, event log review indicates a single client with excessive open files:
Sat Nov 14 01:12:31 -0800 [NETAPP02: kernel: Nblade.cifsMaxOpenSameFileNotice:notice]: Received 801 open file requests, nearing the configured limit of 1000, for the same file by one user on a connection: clientIP:port 10.111.41.145:62196, file: "NETAPP02_logvol\logs\2020-11-14_trace.log" on share: "ONTAP_ADMIN$".
Sat Nov 14 02:02:53 -0800 [NETAPP02: kernel: ems.engine.suppressed:debug]: Event 'Nblade.cifsMaxOpenSameFile' suppressed 1345 times in last 714 seconds.
