Intermittent CIFS connectivity issues with heavy write workload

Issue

  • Intermittent CIFS connection errors
    • Connection issues are typically short lived.
  • SQL server may report the following error, while backup is running: "There is not enough memory available"
  • Related to systems with low memory and fast network infrastructure
    • The following error may be seen in a packet trace:
      1580332  51.352136 192.168.0.69 → 192.168.0.117 SMB2 Write Response, Error: STATUS_NO_MEMORY
  • Heavy write workload, or bursts in write workload.
