ONTAP LUN offline due to lack of space in the volume

Issue

  • LUN in a thin provisioned volume taken offline due to volume running out of space although there is a large amount of aggregate free space.
  • LUN shows 100% utilization in ONTAP, but client-side occupied space is lower and LUN is taken offline due to lack of space.
  • LUN in a thin provisioned volume taken offline due to volume running out of space.

Example volume configuration:

  • Fractional reserve disabled (0%)
  • LUN space reservation is off
  • Volume guarantee is none
  • Volume autogrow is off
  • Snapshot autodelete is off
  • Thin provisioned LUN in a thick provisioned volume went offline due to volume running out of space.

Example volume configuration

  • Fractional reserve enabled (100%)
  • LUN space reservation is off
  • Volume guarantee is volume
  • Volume autogrow is off
  • Snapshot autodelete is off
  • Insufficient space on aggregate
