Issue

  • NFS clients are unable to connect to mounts intermittently with the following error:

Jun 13 22:02:58 linuxclient.domain.com kernel: nfs: server netapp01.domain.com not responding, still trying

  • DNS and LDAP timeout errors are logged in ONTAP EMS
  • Other problems are noted in the environment such as monitor software isn't connecting, some clients can't be SSH'd into, and cluster peer is intermittently unreachable
  • Rebooting impacted NFS clients resolves the issue, but the same hang occurs some time later
  • Takeover and giveback of storage nodes does not help
  • No port errors are logged on switches, storage controllers, or clients
