Applies to

  • ONTAP 9.5 and later
  • CIFS/SMB
  • Preferred DC

Issue

  • Latency difference observed while running  cifs domain preferred-dc check command for two different SVMs
  • These SVMs have LIFs on different nodes in the cluster
  • But the preferred domain controllers they are contacting are same

ONTAP95::> cifs domain preferred-dc check -vserver SVM_NODE_A
Vserver: SVM_NODE_A
Domain Name             DC Address        Status Status Details
----------------------- ----------------- ------ ------------------------
domain.local            10.10.10.2        up     Response time (msec):201
domain.local            10.10.10.5        up     Response time (msec):105

ONTAP95::> cifs domain preferred-dc check -vserver SVM_NODE_B
Vserver: SVM_NODE_B
Domain Name             DC Address        Status Status Details
----------------------- ----------------- ------ ----------------------
domain.local            10.10.10.2         up    Response time (msec):0
domain.local            10.10.10.5         up    Response time (msec):2
