Answer

This article is for users transitioning their Data ONTAP 7-Mode system to a clustered Data ONTAP system using the 7-Mode Transition Tool (7MTT).

Using the 7MTT, a project is created by a user. If the project is in transition and will be completed by someone else at a later date, is there a way to export the project info so that they can initiate the cutover?

The 7MTT sessions are 'live’ on whatever Windows computer on which the software is installed. There is not an 'export’ function within the software. However, you can move the logs between hosts and thus move the jobs/sessions. Before proceeding, ensure you are using/installing the same version of the 7MTT software on the 'new’ Windows Host (laptop/VM).

Perform the following steps:

  1. Install 7MTT on the new Windows Host (laptop).
  2. Stop the ‘NetApp 7-Mode Transition Tool’ Windows service.
  3. Copy the contents of the old Windows Host’s directory $7MTT_INSTALL_DIR/7-Mode Transition Tool/data to the new Windows Host’s directory $7MTT_INSTALL_DIR/7-Mode Transition Tool/data
Note: This step brings all the projects/sub-projects to the new Windows Host.
  4. Copy the contents of the old Windows Host’s directory $7MTT_INSTALL_DIR/7-Mode Transition Tool/logs to the new Windows Host’s directory $7MTT_INSTALL_DIR/7-Mode Transition Tool/logs
  5. Restart the ‘NetApp 7-Mode Transition Tool’ Windows service on the 'new' Windows Host.
  6. If you are using GUI, log into the GUI.
The GUI should ask for the required 7-Mode/cluster controllers credentials (username, password).
  7. If you are using CLI, manually add the credentials (username, password) for all the required 7-Mode systems and clusters by running the CLI command:
    transition credentials add
  8. Once credentials are provided, continue with other transition activities.

Note: The best recommendation, if multiple individuals are administering the 7MTT jobs, is to install the software on a centralized server within the customer’s environment.

If you want to ‘add’ the transition sessions from one 7MTT workstation installation to another workstation installation, then edit group.json  files from the first 7MTT installations and add the entries from the group.json file of the second 7MTT installation. The end result will be one file that incorporates all the entries from both the 7MTT installations. Make sure you create backup copies of each file before combining them, in case there are errors created in joining the files together. You also should not have any odd-named files or zipped docs in that directory, or the tool will act as if it just crashed. Attached are the versions of the group.json  files, prior to and after the edits.
