Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE)
  • NetApp Aggregate Encryption (NAE)

Answer

  • No.  The volume encryption conversion process runs single threaded per volume.
  • ONTAP will give priority to data access operations over the volume encryption conversion process.
  • As the preference is given to data access over the encryption process, the conversion process may take a long time depending on the size of the data set that is under conversion.
  • It is not possible to predict how long encrypting or decrypting a volume or aggregate will take.
