Hyper-V live migration fails after CIFS disruption even with VMs stored on continuously available shares

Applies to

  • ONTAP 9 - Storage Failover Giveback (SFO)
  • SMB / CIFS Version 3 - Continuously Available (CA) shares
  • MS Hyper-V - Virtual Machine (VM)

Issue

  • After a SFO or other disruptive CIFS actions, some VMs fails with live-migration (even if the VMs are stored on CA shares) and the VMs are operational, but not fully functional
  • After a restart of the VMs they are operational and functional
