Description

Vservers can be renamed in clustered Data ONTAP 8 without any disruption to client machines. This is because, the change will not be visible to clients as they connect to the Vserver using the protocol addresses and normal hostname resolution.

NOTE: This Knowledge Base article is only applicable to clustered Data ONTAP 8, and does not apply to ONTAP 9. ONTAP 9 does not have the same SVM peer relationship and SVM rename interaction.
