Answer

An SVM can be managed with an Active Directory (AD) account even with no CIFS server present

  1. Run the following command to create a computer account for the SVM in AD

::> vserver active-directory create -vserver DataSVM -account-name ADSERVER1 -domain demo.netapp.com

This enables authentication of AD users and groups to the data SVM

  1. Run the security login create command to create an AD user or group to manage the cluster or SVM

Note: For cluster administration with an AD account, you will have to create domain tunnel
