How to administer a SVM with an AD account with no CIFS server configured?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- Active Directory Authentication
- CIFS Domain-Tunnel
Answer
An SVM can be managed with an Active Directory (AD) account even with no CIFS server present
- Run the following command to create a computer account for the SVM in AD
::> vserver active-directory create -vserver DataSVM -account-name ADSERVER1 -domain demo.netapp.com
This enables authentication of AD users and groups to the data SVM
- Run the security login create command to create an AD user or group to manage the cluster or SVM
Note: For cluster administration with an AD account, you will have to create domain tunnel
