  • AFF ASA A800
  • ONTAP 9.9.1 and later

Description

A customer that utilizes an AFF system for only SAN protocols may desire to convert their AFF to an All SAN Array (ASA) configuration

  • ONTAP 9.9.1 adds the ability for AFF customers that are using a supported AFF controller model to convert from AFF to ASA with a nondestructive in-place personality change.
  • This personality flip is one-way only and changes the AFF personality to ASA.
  • This migration also changes the HA pair from asymmetric to symmetric active-active. Additionally, it removes the ability to host or run any NAS protocols on the ASA

Note: There is no mechanism to convert a cluster back from ASA to AFF. This means once set, there will be no future capability to serve NAS protocols from this converted platform
