Cannot delete or rename a file, an empty directory or qtree

Issue

  • Cannot delete directory
  • Directory has 777 permissions
  • Admin host cannot delete the directory
  • Cannot delete an empty directory

Note: A qtree cannot be deleted, if Storage-Level Access Guard is applied to it. It must be removed to delete a qtree. For details, see the following article, Removing the Storage-Level Access Guard.

  • The directory is empty
  • rm does not work
  • Common Internet File System protocol (CIFS) lock causing sharing violation
  • Windows Host error message: Error renaming file cannot rename [filename]: There has been a sharing violation
