Answer

ONTAP 9 supports utf8mb4 starting in ONTAP 9.5

Additional Information

  • Introduced in ONTAP 9.7P1, users have the ability to change the volume language from *.UTF-8 to utf8mb4
    • For more information, see the ONTAP 9 Documentation Center.
    • The change is not known to be disruptive as no conversion takes place.
    • If there are concerns about data integrity, create a new utf8mb4 volume and migrate the data over using a file-based copy.
