The proper way of partitioning the drives is through system initialization. It is possible to partition the drives manually, however the procedure is meant for partitioning one or two disks, not a whole shelf.
Considerations for manual partitioning of disks:
Same type and size of disks has to be used
Blocksize (rawsize) of the manually created partitions has to match existing partitions.
