CIFS share is only accessible by a limited number of users

Issue

  • The following error is displayed on Microsoft Windows client:
    • \\host\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.
  • Permissions allow access and the number of CIFS sessions is low.
    • cifs sessions show
  • The storage node appears healthy with no errors in EMS or other logs, however a packet trace shows that the storage controller is refusing new tree connections with STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED. This error does not lead anywhere other than point out that the storage system is at fault for not allowing users to connect. Users notice that they can connect to the CIFS share if other users disconnect. Only specific CIFS shares are impacted.
