Many products use the Data ONTAP API to interact with Data ONTAP. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • OnCommand Unified Manager
  • OnCommand System Manager
  • VMware integration software
    • Virtual Storage Console
    • Site Recovery Manager
  • SnapDrive
  • SnapManager
  • SnapCenter
  • NetApp Manageability SDK
    • PowerShell toolkit

Issue

'Unable to find API' messages are logged in the cluster MGWD log. These include but are not limited to the following:

    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: cluster-identity-get
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: system-get-version
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: net-dns-get

    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: volume-get-iter
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: volume-offline

    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: volume-destroy
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: lun-get-iter    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: snapshot-delete
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: nfs-service-get
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: nfs-status
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: cifs-server-get-iter
    [kern_mgwd:info:1033] ontapi :: <ip_address> :: <username> :: Unable to find API: cifs-share-get-iter

OnCommand System Manager (OCSM) may be impacted.  The following is an example in the TRACE logs:

    "ZAPI-NAME": "volume-get-iter",
    "Input": "<volume-get-iter><desired-attributes>...</desired-attributes><max-records>50</max-records></volume-get-iter>",
    "Output": "Invalid output:<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
    <!DOCTYPE netapp SYSTEM 'file:/etc/netapp_gx.dtd'>
    <netapp version='1.21' xmlns='http://www.netapp.com/filer/admin'>
    <results reason="Unable to find API: volume-get-iter on node vserver <vserver>" status="failed" errno="13005"/></netapp>"

'specified vserver not found' messages may log differently per application. The following are examples.
