Recurring "Network interface ethX is down or cable is unplugged" alerts on Element

Issue

  • The following alert keeps recurring in NetApp SolidFire Active IQ on the same interface
    Network interface eth<X> is down or cable is unplugged
     
  • In the kern.log file the network interface card (NIC) driver is showing repeated link down messages, followed by going up again
    $ zgrep -i bnx /var/log/kern.log*
    kern.log.2.gz:<time_stamp> <system_name> kernel: [59605331.152510] bnx2x 0000:01:00.1 eth1: NIC Link is Down
    kern.log.2.gz:<time_stamp> <system_name> kernel: [59615976.899850] bnx2x 0000:01:00.1 eth1: NIC Link is Up
