Answer

  • AFF-A400 platforms use a new compression algorithm known as lrzw1a, also known as Hardware Offload Storage Efficiency
  • The lrzw1a compression algorithm is incompatible with ONTAP 9.6 and earlier
  • Replicating from a volume hosted on an AFF-A400 using the lrzw1a compression algorithm to a SnapMirror destination running ONTAP 9.6 or earlier will result in an transfer that does not maintain source deduplication or compression savings
    • Upgrade the destination cluster to ONTAP 9.7 or later to allow SnapMIrror to switch to a storage-efficient transfer
