FlexGroup SnapMirror operation fails with "Source Consistency Group is already part of another snapmirror relationship."

  • SnapMirror for FlexGroups volumes 
  • ONTAP 9.1 (or later)

Issue

  • When the snapmirror resync , snapmirror update ,or snapmirror initialize commands are run on a SnapMirror for FlexGroups relationship,  the operation can fail with :

Failed to configure source. (Relationship database write failed (The Source Consistency Group is already part of another SnapMirror relationship.).)

  • This issue can arise when a new SnapMirror relationship is established between two FlexGroup volumes, and the relationship is initialized
  • When the issue happens during a SnapMirror initialize, it is due to the existence of similar SnapMirror relationship information on the primary / snapmirror source
  • This issue can also happen outside of SnapMirror initialize, in any scenario where the SnapMirror for FlexGroups relationship is deleted, then re-created on the destination
