Applies to

  • SnapCenter Server until version 4.3.2
  • SnapCenter Plug-In for VMware vSphere (SCV) until version 4.3.2

Issue

When backup retention is being applied, SnapCenter fails to delete a snapshot with the following error, found in the SMCore_<JobID>.log file:

WARN  SMCore_#### PID=[####] TID=[##] Activity - Registering Backup and Applying Retention, Completed with warning : Retention : Error: Remove Snapshot '<backup name>' failed on volume '<volume name>'.

This Snapshot copy is currently used as a reference Snapshot copy by one or more SnapMirror relationships. Deleting the Snapshot copy can cause future SnapMirror operations to fail.

Note: the backup information for primary has been deleted, and the snapshot will need to be manually deleted until version 4.4, which fixes this issue.
