Issue

SCSQL database resources are unavailable for backup and shows the message

"Not available for backup. DB is not on NetApp Storage, auto-close is enabled or in recovery mode"

in the Selectable field, while the following holds true.

  • None of the possible causes listed in the Selectable field are valid (i.e. the database is on NetApp storage, does not have auto-close enabled, and is online).
  • The disk(s) housing the database files are being enumerated in the SCSQL host and the SC Run As account for the instance has 'sysadmin' privileges in SQL Server.

On of the following possible messages can be seen in the mentioned log

  • Discovery jobs for the SQL resources show a possible permissions error when retrieving the database properties in the SmSql_<JOB>.log (default path on the SQL Server: <installation_path>\NetApp\SnapCenter\SnapCenter Plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server\log\) for the Job ID <JOB>  :

DEBUG SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Fetching Database [<DATABASE_NAME>] properties...
DEBUG SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] FillAGDetails
DEBUG SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Database Type: User
DEBUG SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Getting File groups
DEBUG SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Getting Log Files
ERROR SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Property Size is not available for Database '[USER_DB]'. This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights.
ERROR SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] Failed to get the details of database <DATABASE_NAME>
ERROR SmSql_1102 PID=[9568] TID=[4] ErrorCode (-1), ErrorMessage (Property Size is not available for Database '[<DATABASE_NAME>]'.
This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights. )

  • Alternatively, a connection error may also give a similar result with the message:

ErrorCode (10010), ErrorMessage (The SQL instance '<HOSTNAME>\<INSTANCE_NAME>' is either stopped or
the user '<DOMAIN>\<ACCOUNT>' does not have required permission to connect.

Error: Failed to connect to server <HOSTNAME>\<INSTANCE_NAME>.)
