HANA 2.0 Snapshot backup fails "because another snapshot has been already prepared"

Issue

Both the File based backups and the Snapshot backups fail with the following error in the hana log:
 
SCC-00164: Application quiesce for the plug-in [hana] failed with exit code [-1] and with error:
* 2: general error: Backup error: Snapshot operation failed for database(s) {
1: A storage snapshot cannot be prepared because another storage snapshot has been already prepared or a data backup is running.
}. SQLSTATE: HY000 Failed to create HANA data backup snapshot.
SCC-00161: Application quiesce for the plug-in [hana] failed with exit code [-1] and error : Storage backup failed.
HANA backup data snapshot not found in HANA catalog for this backup.
* 2: general error: Backup error: No valid snapshot has been found SQLSTATE: HY000 Failed to drop HANA snapshot.
