Applies to

  • ONTAP 9
  • IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly TSM)

Issue

  • A file- or directory-level restore fails with internal error reported by Spectrum Protect, and no files were created  in the NetApp ndmp debug log
  • The restore nlist can be found in a ndmp debug log of the restore
  • The nlist is sent by the Data Management Application (DMA,) and contains a listing of items being restored
  • When examined, the nlist entries may be found to contain spaces in either the file or directory names

/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client Data/Monthly/Jan Transactions.xls

/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client Data/Monthly

  • Less common, but possible -- The restore nlist for the failing restore contains multiple, identical entries:
nlist[0/4] original_path='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client'
nlist[0/4] destination_dir='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client' name='' other_name=''
nlist[0/4] node=0 (0x0)
nlist[0/4] fh_info=0 (0x0)
nlist[1/4] original_path='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client'
nlist[1/4] destination_dir='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client' name='' other_name=''
nlist[1/4] node=0 (0x0)
nlist[1/4] fh_info=0 (0x0)
nlist[2/4] original_path='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client'
nlist[2/4] destination_dir='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client' name='' other_name=''
nlist[2/4] node=0 (0x0)
nlist[2/4] fh_info=0 (0x0)
nlist[3/4] original_path='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client'
nlist[3/4] destination_dir='/data-SVM1/sharedat/REPORTING/Clients/Client' name='' other_name=''
nlist[3/4] node=0 (0x0)
nlist[3/4] fh_info=0 (0x0)
