iSCSI session state is changed to Reconnecting for the target

Issue

  • The affected MetroCluster site has a power outage. 
  • The boot console logs show the iSCSI session state is changed to Reconnecting for the target error.
[ClusterB-01:iscsi.session.stateChanged:notice]: iSCSI session state is changed to Reconnecting for the target iqn.2016-06.com.netapp:09868cf1-034a-11e7-8ac6-d039ea1d28c3 (type: dr_partner, address: 192.168.188.1:65200). Reason: session login timed out.
[ClusterB-01:iscsi.session.stateChanged:notice]: iSCSI session state is changed to Reconnecting for the target iqn.2016-06.com.netapp:76acc4e4-034b-11e7-b81d-d039ea1d63df (type: dr_auxiliary, address: 192.168.188.2:65200). Reason: session login timed out.
  • ONTAP cannot boot with a panic

[ClusterB-02:cf.fm.noMBDisksOrIc:error]: Could not find the local mailbox disks. Could not determine the firmware state of the partner through the HA interconnect.
[ClusterB-02:mcc.config.bootConfigNotRead:ALERT]: Configuration could not be read from persistent storage due to internal error Failed to retrieve persistent storage (MBX) due to no mailbox disks being found. The system will try to retrieve or set the configuration automatically later, during boot.
PANIC  : Root volume is offline.

  • Sometimes ONTAP can boot, but the remote disks miss

  • Replacing the T6 card does not resolve the problem
