Trident error: csi.trident.netapp.io not found in the list of registered CSI drivers

Issue

Attempts to mount PVC (a volume provisioned by Trident) fail with missing CSI driver . The error occurs at Kubernetes level and will be reported in the kublet log.

The kublet log shows:

MountVolume.MountDevice failed for volume "pvc-7b4c33fa-c897-4756-bbed-854ed476045b" : kubernetes.io/csi: attacher.MountDevice failed to create newCsiDriverClient: driver name csi.trident.netapp.io not found in the list of registered CSI drivers

All driver-registrar pods report

[W0818 23:43:44.793588 1 connection.go:170] Still connecting to unix:///plugin/csi.sock
